President- Lura Klecka, DVM
Dr. Klecka DVM graduated from Texas A & M University- College of Veterinary Medicine in 1978. She has been a past member and president of the Emergency Pet Clinic board, and was twice the past president of the Veterinary Medical Association of Bexar County. Dr. Klecka is currently a practicing veterinarian and grandma.
Vice President- Wendy Welsh
Wendy began her company, Outside the Box Productions in 2002, after 7 years with the San Antonio Spurs as Game Operations and Promotions Director. In the past 9 years Out of the Box Productions has put together several major Marketing and Advertising campaigns for clients such as the AT&T center, A Taste of the Northside, the YMCA of Greater San Antonio, and AT&T Uverse. Wendy takes pride in her involvement with SpaySA because she loves animals and truly believes that the only way to begin to conquer our homeless and abandoned animal problem in San Antonio is to start where it all begins- Spay your pet and we STOP the problem!
Secretary/Treasurer- Craig V. Howard
Craig earned his BBA from Southwest Texas State University, followed by his MBA from The University of The Incarnate Word. He is currently serving as Senior Director of Commercial Affairs for a division of ICON plc, a global contract research organization in the pharmaceutical industry. Craig has previously worked with the Spurs, US Global Investors, USAA Investment Management Company, and USAA Federal Savings Bank.
John Herbold, DVM, MPH, PhD
Dr. John Herbold, DVM, MPH, PhD received his Doctor of Veterinary Medicine degree from Texas A & M University, the Master of Public Health from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, and the Doctor of Philosophy (Epidemiology) from Ohio State University. Dr. Herbold has held many positions ranging from Chief of Disease Surveillance for the School of Aerospace Medicine during his active duty service with the United States Airforce to Associate Director and Director of a CDC sponsored Academic Center for Public Health Prepardness. Dr. Herbold continues his involvement across the biomedical science enterprise and policy development world as a technical consultant, lecturer, while also holding leadership roles in a variety of not-for-profit organizations.
William H. Craig, DVM
Dr. Craig, DVM graduated from Texas A & M University- College of Veterinary Medicine in 1977. As a companion animal Veterinarian for over 30 years, Dr. Craig co-founded Ingram Park Animal Hospital, Diplomate of the American Board of Veterinary Practicioners certified in Canine and Feline Practice, the 2007 Texas Veterinary Medical Association Companion Animal Practioner of the Year, Past President of the Veterinary Medical Association of Bexar County, and Past President of the Texas Academy of Veterinary Practice. Dr. Craig is currently Chief Medical and Underwriting Director for PurinaCare Pet Health Insurance.
Paula Winslow
As a certified Senior Professional in Human Resources, Paula has had extensive experience in the HR industry. Mostly notably, Paula became the Spurs Sports and Entertainment first-ever human resources director in 1993, and was named Vice President of Human Resources in 2002. Currently Paula is the Human Resources Director of the Health Texas Medical Group. She is a member of the San Antonio Human Resources Management Society, Senior Human Resources Management Association, Healthcare Business Women's Association, American Society of Healthcare Human Resources Administration, Texas Society for Healthcare Human Resources Administration, and the Medical Management Association.
John Seabers
John Seabers is currently the Group Manager of the Sinclair Broadcast Group. He is also the National Vice President of the Muscular Dystrophy Association and has been on the board of several local organizations, including the Animal Defense League, United Way of San Antonio, Catholic Charities, and Boys and Girls Club.
Who are We?
SpaySA's mission is to prevent the overpopulation of cats and dogs by funding spay and neuter services for domestic animals owned by the residents of San Antonio and Bexar County.
To develop, promote, and sponsor programs of education to encourage better understanding, greater appreciation, and better care of all animals.
To engage in other activities which encourage and promote kindness, consideration, and prevention of cruelty to all animals and to exercise all other powers, rights, and privileges conferred by the laws of the state of Texas.
